Berenice began her architectural design career in 2007 when she enrolled in architecture school at the University of New Mexico. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2010 and a Master of Architecture in 2013. The majority her of experience is in residential design with over ten years of experience. She enjoys working directly with clients to better understand their needs to design a home that is optimal for their lifestyle.
Berenice’s approach to architecture essentially amounts to designing spaces that make intuitive sense, optimize home living, and connect people with their environment. She believes in designing spaces that take advantage of views, and long-term protection from natural forces, such as sun, wind and rain. Good design does not mean bigger. The human scale has been lost in the idea that bigger is better, resulting in cavernous spaces that often feel cold and empty. Berenice works from a philosophy that small spaces can be designed to accommodate all the needs of an individual or business and still achieve peak functionality and efficiency when considering how we use and move around spaces. She employs each site’s topography to create unique and hard-to-replicate spaces and is of the opinion that landscaping should never be an afterthought. When incorporated into the architecture of a home or building, she credits each site’s unique landscape as being the jewel that makes the home or building feel complete and more luxurious. The ability to design in such a way that indoor and outdoor spaces easily merge to become one is ideal and essential to her practice.
